Cala Gonone is a very popular and yet secluded place in the east coast of Sardinia, near the small town of Dorgali, about an hour driving from Olbia or Golfo Aranci. The road reveals some of the most enchanting beaches of the island like the 4 km long beach of Su Tiriarzu or the sand dunes of Capo Comino and Berchida.

Further south, towards Orosei, the longest beach of this area is to be found and enjoyed with ponds, river mouths and canals all along the full length of 8 km of beach. Leaving Orosei, the coast becomes high and rocky and beaches are no longer easily accessible.

Cala Gonone is the farthest village you can reach by car and is the boarding place for daily sea excursions to the enchanting Cala Luna, Cala Goloritzè and Cala Sisine coves. You should try to plan an overnight stop in Cala Gonone or the surrounding area, since the spectacular views that these beaches will offer you are exactly what Sardinia is famous for! Should you get bored of sunbathing in such wonderful places and be more adamant about wildlife then the small town of Dorgali is the perfect starting point to explore the inland area.

Just a few kilometres north of the town are the grotto of Ispinigoli, a stunning 12 km long cave including Europe's highest stalagmite, some 38 mt tall. Trekking lovers won't be disappointed either. A trip to Tiscali is a good chance to see Sardinian pre-historic Nuragic settlement with its megalithic edifices in the shape of a truncated conical tower and at the same time to enjoy a walk through beautiful landscapes, especially when starting from the side of Oliena.
