The village of Porto Pollo, which is some kilometers ahead of Santa Teresa Gallura, is internationally acclaimed as a wind and kite surfing spot. It is located in the Isuledda or Isola dei Gabbiani, an extremely thin isthmus with two beaches on both sides enlisted among the most beautiful of the whole island and extending for about five kilometers.

Porto Pollo is an excellent location to explore one of the best preserved area of Sardinia, the Archipelago of La Maddalena that spreads out in front of the Palau coast and consists of 60 islands and islets.

It is the firstly established national park in Sardinia and was declared as such in 1996. The granitic islands boast remarkable naturalistic, geological and marine conditions and luckily human settlements have not compromised its environmental importance over the centuries.

La Maddalena is worth a visit combining walking itineraries and bird watching as well as sea and beach experience moving from one island to the other and from one beach to the other. It is a true sea and nature experience, away from the bustling Costa Smeralda and its glittering nightlife.

Within a short distance from Porto Pollo is the town of Palau with the famous Capo d'Orso or the Bear's Rock, an imposing 120 m high granite rock that truly resembles a big bear watching out the sea. More exquisite little bays hide equally attractive beaches around the famous rock.

Among these are Cala Capra, Cala Casotto and Acapulco beach. The other main town is Santa Teresa Gallura, located on a promontory opposite the French island of Corsica, gently descending towards the Rena Bianca, a short stretch of white sand easily accessible from the town centre.

Although the landscape is dominated by thousand of wind shaped granite rocks immersed in thick bush and clear waters, white sandy beaches are quite common. Megalithic and lunar in its landscape the Capo Testa promontory and Valle della Luna offer spectacular sceneries of a rocky environment shaped by the winds and the sea.
